In 2014 I decided to enroll to an art school in order to get back at drawing and maybe develop my technique a litle bit but never would I expect it to make such a huge turn on my life.
At that time I worked mainly with foreign language classes and translations but I would do a whole bunch of random gigs whenever an opportunity appeared. Truth is I had no idea at all of what I was going to do in my life and just kept following the flow. The audacious (or kind of dumb) idea was getting a degree and working with diplomacy if I didn’t find any true passion.
Well, everything changed in a couple months after I started my drawing classes at Estudio Daniel Brandao. Not only the classes where technically great but the team there was in a whole different level in terms of dealing with the students. Everybody felt welcome and eager to express themselves and excited to develop their own art and personal views while working on the craft. It made me realize that I still enjoyed drawing and creating more than anything else. It made me have fun at it again.
The drawing course led me to the comics course and from this one on to the next and through time, in a very organic manner, I got closer and closer to the team at the studio and made friends with them all. Some years later I got invited to be a part of the team, but that’s another story.
I spent years studying different stuff there but truth is it took just a couple months in the drawing course for the epiphany to kick in: that was it, I was going to work with what I loved, I was going to make comics!
(That decision would shake my life and in the future a lot of good and bad things would come due to this decision, but quick spoiler: no regrets)
